The Covington Church of Christ is not so much a name as a description of a group of people meeting to worship God. We are a congregation of the church that belongs to Christ. Each of us recognized the sins in his or her life and came to God for salvation as the Bible instructs.
We have no denominational affiliation. We are simply Christians following the teachings of Jesus and His apostles and prophets found in the New Testament. The division of denominationalism is in fact, contradictory to the teaching of the Bible. Jesus prayed for his followers to be united and of one accord.
The New Testament contains God's pattern of how He wants men to worship and serve Him so that all people can be unified. It also teaches the truth concerning our attitudes, actions, words and thoughts as we live our everyday life. It is our commitment to live by these teachings to the best of our ability.
Various passages in the scriptures recount people asking the question "What must I do to be saved?" ( Acts 2:38, 8:36-38, Romans 6:3-4 ). As the scriptures indicate, the answer was always the same. To believe, confess Jesus as son of God, and be baptized for the remission of sins.
Many people today view "joining a church" the same as enrolling in a social club. They might ask about trips, luncheons, gymnasiums or other activities that would entice them to "join". They might even begin to attend the church based on it's physical size and architectural splendor.
Jesus' life was dedicated to establishing a church that doesn't consist of physical walls. Because people have forgotten that original church which consists of believers, not buildings, society has an array of denominations and religions that cater to just about everyone and everything.
In truth, the way to salvation is the same as it has always been. To believe, to confess Jesus as the son of God, and be baptized for the remission of sins. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments or would like to schedule a bible study.
